Loretto

The Sisters and Their Santa Fe Chapel

Mary Jean Straw Cook, Author

The Loretto Chapel has long been a destination for travelers to New Mexico as well as an architectural wonder. The story of the Sisters of Loretto's mission in Santa Fe and their Gothic-Revival Chapel with its miraculous, gravity-defying staircase, built by a mysterious carpenter who answered their prayers, are important chapters in Santa Fe history in the late nineteenth century.
